An Excellent Typographic FREE Download - very rare. very beautiful
This is titled “A Consideration of the study of letters as THINGS as well as symbols of things or of sounds of speech”
If you follow this link you can download this beautiful visual PDF. It is an excerpt from the 1977 book called Letter-forms and lettering by John R Biggs. You cannot purchase this book any more so it is a really rare document.
Biggs starts off saying that: “Letters are things. They have length and breadth and sometimes depth. They make language visible. “
If this proves to be popular, I will share more of the book when he gives example of the features that make letters unique. (again great visual examples). He also provides some wonderful exercises to do that will help you to become better at the re emerging art of hand lettering!
Happy typographing! Let me know your thoughts, it really is pretty spectacular isn’t it?

First sketch of Zoe’s gorgeous garden, plus the shoes you wear in the garden! Then bear with the randomness, but in the theme of personal space (gardens), we have Faisal’s Diwania in Kuwait, with Faisal and Ms Budjinsky! Finally we have the personal space for my new neighbour, Mia Feunfgeld, the beautiful newly born daughter of my lovely neighbours Sophie and Heartmund.
Tomorrow, its back to the kit, I have 30 hard copies which I am going to bundle into the car, and hoik around to the best bookshops in melbourne. I wonder how the adventure will go?

This is my little private gallery/studio space in my house, where I hang my work for reflection, sharing and discussion!
The Arabic script in the corner, is a piece of roadside signage, pillaged while working in Kuwait. It actually says “villa for rent”. Isn’t it divine! ?.
That chair in the corner is a hard rubbish find, courtesy of Fawkner rubbish collection. Archie (the cat) thinks its his of course. I must get it covered. Any suggestions?
