NUMBER 14, BY DAY, BY NIGHT

These drawings are done in watercolour. They are of my neighbour’s house number 14, and they are supposed to depict it in a way that is magical, or surreal. One image by daylight, and another at night time. I thought that transposing the usually green grass and trees to red and pink seemed to be a surreal idea.

MY WORK SPACE

This is the space where I work. The table is a loan from a friend of mine (thankyou Amadis). It’s a nice big table where I can spread out in the lovely back room of our house, which opens out onto the garden, with high ceilings.

Here also is my working feet, and working companion, Gertie, a miniature schnauzer. Gertie is constantly disrupted from her sleep by her need to chase off stray honeyeaters in her garden! There are so many of them around this spring after all the rain!

I am an ethnographer, illustrator, publisher, graphic designer and educator. I am interested in telling stories with pictures.

I have just written, illustrated and published "What the Hell is Your Problem?" A Kit for Uptight White People.

I lectured for six years at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. I also have a graduate Diploma in Education, and a Masters in Cross Disciplinary Design.
I have taught Communication Design at private colleges, and set up the inaugural Communication Design Program for the Box Hill Institute in Kuwait. Most of my past professional design work has involved designing identities for grass roots organisations, such as community health centres, and the Brotherhood of St Laurence.

I am interested in the developing role of Design as an agent for positive social change, around which I centred my final masters project, by designing a "kit for uptight white people", to raise civil engagement.
