Silver Fruit apon Silver Trees (WIP) Type and Image as Narrative

Still a long way to go on this job but I thought I would share it with you. I’ve always loved the poem called “Silver”, by Walter de la Mare. I can remember hearing someone sing it once and it was the most magical song i had ever heard. It was so other worldly. I thought it would be nice to use it to showcase some of the drawings that I have done, and turn them into another print on demand book with Blurb.

I need to try out some different type selections, and start to introduce some colour. I am about halfway there.

Here is where I am up to, the book will be 15 x 23 cm… this is just a WIP shot to share with you… Of course I really should be working on another project, but it has been really hot and sweaty today, and my head isnt working because I went for a run first thing which has rendered me delerious and now i have literally cut my finger nail off my index finger. Tomorrow will be cooler

DID YOU KNOW?

From numerous migrant perspectives, many of our “Anglo” social norms, are actually problematic?

Here is the hot of the press copy of a kit that explores these perspectives, and asks you whether you display these tendancies. The kit also provides explorations and solutions to help you overcome your uptight nature.

I conceptualised, wrote, illustrated and designed the Kit as my final  project for my University of NSW Masters in Cross Disciplinary Design. I am a graphic designer and also illustrated and created the bespoke lettering for the kit.  I am interested in collaborating on other projects which involve the idea of “design for good” so don’t hesitate to get in touch.

ARE YOU STUCK UP?

Did you know that from numerous multicultural perspectives, many of our “anglo” social norms, are actually problematic?

Who do you know that stares straight ahead, and never says “Good morning” making you feel strangled with their silence? Maybe this kit is just what you might like to buy them for Christmas?

(reads the back cover of the kit)

This is the cover of the Kit I completed for my masters project in X Disciplinary Design at the UNSW. I have been working hard now to complete the actual art direction of the kit, so that it can be marketed and actually utilised. I would love to see it used and for it to start many interesting conversations about how we get along.

All of the illustrations and typography are mine, and finally It’s ready to go. I will have some copies printed from Blurb, and if you are interested in purchasing a copy of the book of the kit, let me know. It shouldnt cost more than $20 max. If there is enough interest, I will also have the kit printed as a series of postcards, which can be hung on a special little pin line.

The Kit consists of a series of 9 objects which describe our problematic behaviour, and also some exercises to help us become warmer more friendly humans. Be the first to preview each artifact, as it is released. The List of Excuses, Role of Honour, Bottle of Social Lubricant, Straight Faced Mask, The Welcome Mat, just to name a few!

I hope you like it. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at vgrowdesign@gmail.com
