XMAS LUNCH
Were we in the tropics today, amidst thunder, and steaming rain, and then oddly enough it hailed! Anyway, we had roast pork for lunch as I am not a turkey cooking expert. The pork was slowly roasted at 150 for an hour, and basted in lots of oil, herbs, wine, and lemon juice plus garlic. The herbs were rosemary, sage, and thyme.. It was very nice. We had veg, of beans carrot and spud. And the salad is red raddichio and orange.
SHARE SOME LOVE!
recipe for some “little loves” Amaretti
Ground almond, caster sugar, and egg whites are all you need to make these delicious little pieces of love (that is literally what amaretti means - little loves). So sweet and gooey with goodness oozing out from the middle and a crunchy crust and what a treat.
Here is the recipe and it makes 80. It couldn’t be more simple and easy.
750 g almond meal
500 g sugar
4 egg whites
mix them all together very well. its easier to use your hands which involves less washing up than using the food processer. It’s up to you.
then roll them into wallnut size balls and decorate.
You can use crushed pistachio nuts if you like, or dust with icing sugar or just leave plain. I think it would be yummy to roll them in cinnamon.
Line them out on the tray, they don’t spread out much, so you can put them fairly close
Then squash a half piece of glace cherry or half an almond onto each one so that it spreads out a bit and is no longer spherical
bake at 180 degrees celsius for 15-16 minutes. check them tho at 14 mins as they can burn quite easily at this critical juncture of time!
enjoy the little pieces of love and share them with your friends. I need to give mine away coz i can’t STOP eating them!
SOUR CHERRY AND CHOCOLATE LOAF Who could resist this find when out grocery shopping? Never food shop when you are starving the say! And it’s true only half the loaf made it home! Delicious ! Thanks cervasi!
ps, i am editing this post 3 days later to let you know that this is the best thing! I cannot stop thinking about it still, and when it is toasted, all the chocolate melts, and the cherries take on an intensity in flavour that is just WOWWWW!!!
There he is! That’s Laszlo! One of the proprietors of The Crimean, and passionate slivovitz afficionado. Do ask him about the stuff, and see if you can encourage him to show you some serbjan dancing and singing (even tho he is of hungarian descent:)
